FRANCES SUMNER quietly slipped away on June 6th one day
short of her 80th birthday. She leaves behind her two sons, John
and Stephen, brothers Graham and Duncan and sister Saint Lois. Also mourning
her departure and cherishing the countless fine memories is an impressive
handful of lifelong friends, and a large, devoted and rambunctious extended
family. Auntie Fran, or 'Auntie Rule' as we lovingly dubbed her, was the kind
of Mom that all your friends love and all want to chat with and she will be
very sorely missed by all of us.
Auntie Fran spent her career teaching within the Board of Education wearing a thousand different hats, and thousands of her ex-students, by now spread all over the world, doubtless remember her fondly.
A gathering in memory of her will take place in Toronto in early July with notification forthcoming.
Her family and fans will join to spread her ashes on Little Cameron Lake in Haliburton, her favorite place in the world.
Please join the Sumner/ Croft/ Muirhead families to celebrate Frances’ life on Saturday July 9th.
Mum had many groups of friends, from childhood, church, bridge, teaching, book and investment clubs as well as from her neighbourhood. We would love it if you could join us to celebrate her influence on your life. Please pass the word along to anyone who might like to join us.
The memorial celebration will be held from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. on Saturday July 9th at the Jubilee United Church, 40 Underhill Drive, Toronto. Ontario
Many have asked about which charity they might donate in honour of Fran. If you wish, please give to a charity of your choice that supports her great loves: children, literacy, or public television.
We look forward to seeing you in July to celebrate Fabulous Fran!
