Presents

FIVE CONCERT PROGRAMS

2012

TUESDAY, JANUARY 24, 2012 at 7:30 p.m.

“AN EVENING OF CHOPIN AND DEBUSSY”

Frederic Chopin and Claude Debussy are among the most important composers of piano music.  Arthur Wenk will present a program contrasting the stirring rhythms of Chopin’s polonaises and the virtuosity of his études with the poetry of Debussy’s preludes and the familiar, intimate scenes of his Children’s Corner Suite.

TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 21, 2012 at 7:30 p.m.

“THE METROPOLITAN SILVER BAND”

This band has performed in many places in Canada and its thirty talented musicians will be here to present band music at its best – marches, sacred music, overtures, and selections from the popular and classical repertoire.  Guest artist, baritone Malcolm Sinclair, will also be performing at this concert.

TUESDAY, MARCH 27, 2012 at 7:30 p.m.

“THE DON MILLS COLLEGIATE JAZZ BAND”

This group of eighteen young, talented musicians had planned to be part of our concert series last year, but were selected to represent Canada at the 2011 International Student Jazz Festival in Cuba.  We are delighted that these
“stars of tomorrow” will be performing here for us this year.

TUESDAY, MAY 8, 2012 at 7:30 p.m.

“THE TORONTO CHORISTERS”

This choir first performed for the Jubilee Order of Good Cheer five years ago, and we have invited them back each year since then.  This talented group of more than one hundred singers and musicians will perform a program of songs that is sure to delight all present – a perfect way to conclude our 2011-2012 concert series.

CONCERT INFORMATION

The Jubilee Order of Good Cheer began presenting programs in 2000.  Since then, five concerts have been presented each year, so this series begins with concert #56.

For the first seven years, the proceeds from these concerts were used to purchase the grand piano for the sanctuary.  Starting in 2008, the proceeds have been used to provide enhanced lighting for the chancel.  These lights were installed in 2009 and have been used since then for evening worship and musical and concert presentations.  The proceeds from these five concerts will complete the payment for these lights, and we plan to ‘burn the mortgage’ at the concert in May.

We appreciate your support for these programs and we look forward to seeing you on concert nights.  A reception and free refreshments follow each program.

Admission at the door  –  Adults: $10.00

                                          Youth:    $5.00

A SERIES TICKET can also be purchased.

These cost $40.00 for all five programs and are offered as both a convenience and a savings for our concert goers.  These are available following the Sunday morning services on September 25, October 2, 9 and 16, and during the week from the church office.
